The Boy Who Followed His Mother's Footsteps

By Kayla (Schenectady)

There was once a lady named Kayla who had one son. Kayla was an English teacher at Mont Pleasant Middle School. Her sons name was Jades’. Jades’ was 11 years old turning 12. He was a good boy who got good grades. Until one day Kayla got a phone call from his teacher. He was throwing paper balls at other students.

Jades’ remembered the whole story. He was doing his work when he felt something hit him in the head. He turned around to find Luis laughing. Jades’ threatened “I’m going to punch you in the face if you throw another ball at me.”

Luis mimicked “I will punch you back.” So then they started to fight but the teacher broke it up. Luis and Jades’ both got a phone call home and 2 days out of school suspension.

Kayla remembered when she used to be like that but only outside of school.

Once upon a time, there was an 11 year old girl named Kayla. She was a good girl who got straight A’s every year. But, on the outside world she was a bad girl who loved to fight and get into trouble. Everybody believed that she was the good kid but it wasn’t at all true. Kayla was 4’9” with black hair, light brown eyes, and she wore her hair in a sock bun and bangs.

She also weighed 98 pounds. She was the prettiest and most well dressed in the school. She wore black apple bottom jeans a red rockawear shirt and red and black Jordan retro’s. Kayla had 2 brothers. Ones name was Sheldon who was 15 and lived in NYC with his father and stepmother. The other’s name was Nay-quan and he was 14 and lived with Sheldon and the rest of the family.

She remembered the time when she fought Cynthia. This was the first time she ever got in trouble in school. It all happened on a hot summer Tuesday at lunch time. Kayla was sitting in her normal chair as she always did, when out of nowhere this humungous big belly girl named Cynthia started throwing food at her. Kayla began to get angry and yelled, “Stop throwing food in my hair you beast!”

Cynthia questioned, “What are you going to do about it punk?”

So Kayla got up and poured chocolate milk on her nappy hair. Then the food fight began. Everyone joined in. It was the biggest food fight of the century. But it had to be ruined by the principal who was very, very frustrated and angry!

Well as Kayla became older she adjusted her behavior. She did this because she couldn’t get a job acting like a child. She finally graduated from the elementary school to the middle school. She was happy when she entered the 6th grade. Her mom and dad and the rest of her family as well were happy for her.

Since Kayla’s family loved her so much they threw her a graduation party at the Great Escape! She invited a couple of friends. That was her best time ever. Her favorite part was the Sasquatch. She was scared of heights but she loved to ride on roller coasters. Well her mom was a little nervous about Kayla going on the rides because she was only 11, but then again it was her graduation party.

Kayla grew up to be an English teacher at Mont Pleasant Middle School. Kayla had a son named Jades’. She loved her students, her job, and most of all, her son. Kayla regretted all the bad things that she used to do. Now her son was acting the same way that she used to and she didn’t feel too comfortable about him acting up.

                Two years later…..

Jades’ was now 13 years old. He was in the 8th grade at Mont Pleasant. His mother was his English teacher! He was surprised when he noticed her name on his schedule. He had a couple of friends in his classes.

Jades seemed like the type to be a bad but quiet kid. He was interested in games, books, and girls. Jades’ had a ps3, dsi, Xbox 360, and a wii. He loved the Xbox 360 the most.

Jades’ changed his ways because one day when he was sitting in the library, he saw a thirty five year old man struggling to spell words because he didn’t finish high school. Jades’ thought to himself “That is never going to be me because I’m going to get myself an education, house and a family of my own.”

So Jades’ thought about what he would look like being homeless and hopeless. He became a good kid. He didn’t fight, argue, steal, or lie anymore.

Kayla wished it would have been that easy for her to change her ways. She regretted everything she did.

The final Chapter

Kayla had lots of feelings for her son. He had lots of feelings for her too! When Jades’ grew up he wanted to be a science teacher. He adjusted his behavior because his mom encouraged him.

She wanted him to be a good kid from now on. They moved to California for a vacation. They ended up staying there for good because it was so nice and peaceful. Unlike Virginia, California had lots of stores, people, and cheap prices.

Well, Jades’ moved on with his life and had a kid of his own. His name was Jades’ Jr. Jades lived happily ever after along with his mommy. He became a science teacher just as he wished.

                                                                    The Camera and the Fame

                                                                            By Christian ( Schenectady)

Leon ran up to Louis and said, “Hey Louis, I’m sorry for what I’ve done. Are we still cool?”

“Yea, but I will never forgive you,” Louis said.

“I have an idea, why won’t you try to be in the Major Leagues?”  Leon said with a weird smile.

 “Sure,” Louis said.

While they were walking home, Leon said “Why won’t you be a batter?”

“Sure Leon, WHAT ARE YOU NUTS? I NEVER WANTED TO BE A BATTER!” Louis said with his face red.

“But Louis, I’m going to help you with-“

Louis Interrupted Leon and said, “NO! NO! NO! I’M SICK OF HEARING IT! I’M GOING TO BED! You know what; let’s discuss this tomorrow before my head explodes.”

The next day, Louis was finally calm and trying to forget about what happened with he and Leon.  “Louis!” A voice came from across the street; it was Leon with Steven Johnson, someone that Louis has a bad history with. Louis had an argument with Steven in high school because he was trying to get with every single woman that Louis was friends with. Louis told him, Louis just saw Steven kissing someone and her face expression is like she never wanted to kiss him. Louis ran up to Steven while he was making out. “What are you doing Steven? Leave her alone!” Then Louis punched Steven in the face and  made him fall to the ground.

Louis said, “Hey Leon, Steven Johnson. I remember when I knocked you out in High School, its funny when you stayed in the Nurse’s office for the whole day. What part of your face was swollen? Oh yea, your eye was swollen, your cheek was bruised, and your jaw was cracked.”

“Leon, why do you still hang out with this bastard? And what are you talking about; I wasn’t even ready for that fight.” Steven said with an angry voice.

“He’s my friend, why would I stop hanging out with Louis. I owe him something now because I made him get off the team. And just to tell the both of you, I didn’t want to ruin my friendship with one of you.” Leon said.

“Wait a second Leon, how about when you owed me?”  Steven said.

“Look Steven, you’re my friend, but I’ve been hanging out with Louis ever since you went to Puerto Rico for 3 months.” Steven revealed.

Louis just said, “Shut up!” and punched him in the face again, but harder than the one he did at the high school.

“That’s for you taking my girlfriend in high school,” Louis said.

Leon and Louis ran away from the scene while Steven was on the ground like a dead chicken. Louis went to the empty Mets Stadium. Then a janitor came through the door and said, “Name please.”

“Uh…Derek Jeter sir, I came here to join them,” Leon said. “Derek Jeter is finally going to join the Mets.” The Janitor said. Wow he actually believed that Leon was Derek Jeter. This got to be on the internet, Louis thought in his head. They were walking to the field and saw a bright light. “I can’t believe it.” Louis said with a shocked voice. Leon got out his camera and is finally going to make a video. “Hi my name is Louis, and this is my first time batting.” Leon drops the camera to throw the ball to Leon and there goes a home run.  “Beginner’s luck,” said Leon. Then Leon kept throwing the ball to Louis and made four home runs in a row. “Cool Louis, you were born to be a batter,” Leon let out.

“So Leon, how do you put videos on the internet?”  Louis said.

“You go on LoopTube, make your own account, upload it, and stand back and watch the views.” Leon said. “Tell me your username and password to keep an eye on your videos.”

“My username is LouisSantos20 and password is Homerun4,”Louis said. One month has passed and Louis checked his views, only 1,000 views. Then Louis went to see the info on his videos and notice the video was on private, he left it like that and planned to keep an eye on the video. While Louis was walking to the stadium, he saw Steven and Leon fighting some minor. Louis remembered him from the high school; he always got bullied by Steven and Leon during Senior Year.  “Leave him alone, what did he do to you,” shouted Louis.

“Nothing, he’s fun to beat up,” said Steven with a little smile.

“How about me and the Junior High kid beat you up,” said Louis. Then the high school student did the first punch on Steven. Then after that, Louis ran up to Steven and kicked him right in the jaw.

“What are you doing Leon? Why are you abusing this minor, you can go to jail. Just leave him.” Louis was interrupted by Leon. “I don’t care what you say, you’re not my brother. I can beat you up if I want to.  You made the biggest mistake Louis, now you’re going to pay.” The cops came when the junior high student was making sure Steven went to the hospital.

“Hey what are you doing, stop it,” shouted the cop. Then he took out his gun and aimed at both Steven and the minor.

“Stay right there.” Louis interrupted the cop.

“Sorry to interrupt you sir, but these two men were fighting a minor for no reason. They always bullied him while they were in high school. Arrest these two, not the minor; he was using his self defense.”

“What is your name child?”The cop said and Louis let it out.

“My name is Louis Santos, and I’m 20 years old, from the Bronx.”

Then the minor said, “My name is Patrick Carlson, and I’m 17 years old. I’m from Brooklyn.”

The cop said, “Both of you show me your ID.” Patrick and Louis gave the cop their ID and checked it. “Okay you’re free to go; I’m just giving  a warning to the both of you.”

Patrick ran away and the cop stopped Louis for a second and told him, “Hey, aren’t you the guy on LoopTube?”

Louis just said, “What video? Was it a baseball video of me getting four home runs?”

The cop said with excitement, “It’s you, me and my cop buddies saw that. Can you show us live because one of our members said that it’s fake.” Louis said, “If you want to see me doing a home run hit, come to the old baseball field at 6:00 pm tonight.”

Six o’ clock now and Louis was waiting for the cops to come. They finally arrived five minutes later. Finally! What were they doing? Having a coffee at Starbucks?  Louis thought in his head.  “I don’t believe it of you doing a home run,” The cranky cop said.

“Oh really, someone pitch.”

A cop came to get the ball. He threw the ball as hard as he can and Louis made a home run. “This rookie can’t get another home run,” The cranky cop said with jealousy. Then the cop threw the ball at Louis and he got another home run.

Louis said, “I’m going home now, need some spicy tuna.” Then Louis went in his car and drove home. Then Louis discovered his video was deleted.

Many comments broke loose on his page saying, “What happened to the video?” Louis called the FBI to find out what happened to the video. “Can you scan the last IPs on this account?” said Louis.

“Okay the last IP on this was 21.9033.520. It says the name and address of the house, do you want to know what his name is?” The man on the phone said. “Yes, I need to know who hacked my account.” Louis said. “The name of the man who hacked your account and deleted your video is Leon Sanders.” The man said and Louis paused.  “Um sir, are you there?”

“I’m going to call the police station to tell them.” Louis hung up and called the police.

“New York Police Department, what are you calling for?” The officer on the phone said.

“Yes, I’m calling for Leon Sander’s release from jail,” Louis said.

“He got out two hours ago. Why?” The officer said.

“He needs to be in jail again. He hacked into my account. He lives on 32 12th street; his number is 718-555-2362. Just get him.” Louis hung up and thought in his head, I’m going to stay with Raymond in Schenectady for awhile. Louis just packed up, got in his car and drove off. He called Raymond and told him, “Hey Raymond! I’m going to stay at your house for a few days.”

Raymond said, “Okay bro, but don’t bother me over here.” A few hours later, he finally made it to Schenectady, went to Raymond’s house, and knocked on his door.

“Hey Raymond, open up. Raymond. RAYMOND!” Louis almost lost his temper and he opened up his door.

“Hey Louis, my brother, come in. Use the visitors’ room.” Raymond walked him to the visitor room. “Make yourself at home.” Louis lay down on the bed and called Leon, “Leon, the cops are searching for you. And you find me, you’re done.” Louis hung up instantly and went to sleep.

Weeks went by and all Louis was doing was drinking and playing baseball with his brother. “Hey Louis, want to smoke weed,” Raymond said with his eyes closed.

“No, I drink beer, but don’t smoke.” Then Louis walked outside and saw someone he hadn’t seen for  weeks.  It was Leon. “Leon, I warned you, if you come any closer I’m going to…” Louis paused and saw Leon pulling out a Magnum Pistol and aimed at him.

“Raymond! Give me my MP40, Desert Eagle, and ammo. It’s war time.” Raymond’s friends Nora and Joanie came to the house and saw that Louis and Leon are pointing guns at each other.

“That’s the guy that made my brother be at the hospital a few weeks ago, and now he’s in prison. I’m going to call the Schenectady Police,” Nora said. “Don’t Nora, it’s going to get ugly,” Joanie begged.

“Yo Raymond, call the NYC Police, it’s on my caller ID.” Louis said. When Raymond called the New York City Police, they said that they’ll be coming on helicopter. Then Raymond and his weed buddies came out of the house with a gun. Then the shoot-out began. The Schenectady Cops came to stop them a few minutes later.

The NYC Police came and told the Schenectady Police, “Sorry, but these two are having problems right now and LOUIS PUT YOUR GUN DOWN AND YOU TOO LEON,” said the NYPD Cop. Then everything stopped until Raymond got his AK-47 and shot Leon.

“You’re under arrest for killing someone,” The Schenectady Cop said.

“Sorry Raymond,” Said Louis.

One month passed  since Leon’s death and Louis was still making videos. The videos’ views went to the 10,000s. Louis wondered if that minor, Patrick, was okay. So Louis just got his phone book and found his number.

“Hello?” A voice came.

“Is this Patrick?” Louis said.

“Who is this?” The person on the phone said.

“This is Louis Santos, I was checking if he’s okay,” Louis said.

“Oh Louis, I thought it was you. It’s Patrick, thanks so much for helping me out.” Patrick said.

“Yea, I see that you’re okay.” Louis said.

“Well I got to go, school starts in an half an hour,” Patrick said.

“Ok, bye.” Louis said and hung up.

Louis was just getting out of his house and some man went up to Louis and said, “Hi, are you Louis Santos,” said the man.

“Yes, why?” Louis wondered.

“I’m from the Mets and wanted to know if you wanted to be in the Mets,” the man said.

“Yes sir,” Louis said with excitement.

“Okay, let’s see if your good later at the Mets Stadium,” The man said.

The phone rang, “Louis,” said the mysterious caller. “It’s me Joanie, Nora and Raymond were killed. I’m going to New York City to stay at your house. And Louis, watch out.” Louis just went in his car, nervously and drove to the stadium.

Louis made 2 home runs in a row. “Nice Louis, you’re better than these players,” said the man that came to Louis’s house. Hours passed and the game started, the Mets had 4 points and the Red Sox had 8, the base was full. The crowd chanted, “We want Louis” and clapping. “You’re in Santos,” said the coach. The crowd chanted hard and Louis was one hundred percent ready. The man on the other team had the number 55 on his shirt. Then Louis was ready and thought to himself, I wonder if I can do it. Wonder who Joanie was talking about. Who would kill Raymond and Nora? The ball went to Louis and the announcer said, “Home Run! Home Run! Eight to Eight! It’s a tie.

Now a man from the Mets that was wearing number 13 was batting. And he made a home run and the Mets won. The crowd screamed and chanted.

The team picked Louis up and someone missed a gun shot at Louis. Everyone ran out of the arena. “It can’t be, Steven.” Then Louis was running while he was shooting at him.  Louis ran to the car and got his gun and shot directly at his head.

Joanie ran up to Louis and said, “Thank God you’re still alive.” And Joanie gave Louis a victory kiss. They went to the house and Louis said, “Man what a year, I lost a friend, a brother, and killed Steven. You lost Nora and I’m very sorry what happened.” Someone knocked on Louis’s door, and it was paparazzi asking him many questions. Louis said, “I’m going to bed and enjoy my fame.”

A week later, Louis went to Raymond’s funeral. He put  flowers near his coffin and said, “I wish you were here bro, life got a little tough ever since I became a Major League Baseball player. Just telling you, I’m moving out of the city and moving to the capital. I’ll always come and visit.” Louis just left Schenectady and left to the capital.

Louis went out with Joanie and moved to Albany. He was finally enjoying his fame, but still missed his friends and family. Louis went to acting school at the age of 24. Joanie was now unemployed because Louis was now famous. Louis always visited Raymond’s grave.

My past was hard work, but my future is happiness

 by Ashley (Schenectady)

*Grunt* ~sigh~

I finally just finished cleaning the house. I couldn’t believe I have to do all the chores and look after the older ones knowing that they could take care of themselves. I mean I was just 8 years old. I knew nothing about watching them like they were little kids. Now the house was clean and all my chores had been finished and all I had left for free time was 10 minutes until my parents came home, so me and my brothers played a hide & go seek game and after that we got really tired. My parents came home at 2:30 in the morning. The house was finally clean and I and the boys fell asleep after the last 10 minutes I had left from my free time. It was a very tiring day for me….well obviously only me.

The next morning I woke up and got ready for school. I was excited because I had a field trip tomorrow with my class, but I might not be able to go because my dad said that I had to be home by 3:00 sharp and the field trip would end by 5:00, I’ll just have to either beg him to let me go or just deal with it. (I choose to beg him to let me go, but there is one thing I know that he will say and that is “Listen you will just have to face it, you can’t go because you have chores to do around the house and you know that Liza!”). I walked over to my parent’s room and I saw my dad was getting ready for work. I walked slowly to him and asked “Daddy can I please go to my class field trip?”

He was quiet for a minute then he spoke, “Huh? Oh! Hi Liza, what did you say? I didn’t know you came in here and I didn’t know you said something either.”

“I said if I can go to my…..”

Then he cut me off. “Oh! Yea I almost forgot tomorrow you got chores to do so you have to….HAVE TO  be here by 3:00 sharp, so that means that you are not going to your class field trip tomorrow.” Great it seems that he already gave the answer without me asking him. And I really wanted to go to my class field trip tomorrow I was supposed to go to a zoo but it’s in the forest and I love forest animals. So that’s when my plan came to action, so I begged him to let me go.

“Daddy I really rrreeaaalllllyy want to go, so please, please, pleaseeee let me go. Daddy, Daddy I want to goooo come on!! You know I love animals and you always let me see them!!...... please let me go……….” I started crying because I just couldn’t take it that I could barely go anywhere with anybody.

My dad started walking to me and said “Look…..Liza I know you barely go anywhere but you know how tight we are on money right now. I mean your brothers are like…….well….pretty much the dumbest ones in this house right now and you are the smartest one we have in here.” I chuckled a little because my brothers are kind of stupid for sure. Well now I couldn’t go anymore, but I was still kind of disappointed that I wouldn’t see any animals tomorrow.

One hour later I left for school. When I got to school I saw some of my friends were standing at the gate like always and I saw they were talking about something. Then I heard something about a party, so I kept walking to them quietly, and it looked like my best friend Maria was handing out something. When I got closer she saw me and said “OH!! Hi Liza, here’s an invitation to my birthday party. Now you must promise me that you are coming to my party. So do you promise that you are coming?” I wasn’t sure on what to say to her. I mean she is my best friend and ever since we met she came to all my parties. “ Um. I don’t think I can m…”

She cut me off. “Pleasee you have to promise me Liza” I might as well say yes because I don’t want to break her heart. “Well…Ok.” I saw her smile then she thanked me before she went to class. Today was a very hard day for me with the party invitation thing with Maria. Today was not as bad as I thought it would be, I had a good breakfast and lunch and I played with my friends peacefully and quietly without anyone telling me to do this or that even though that was done at home.

23 YEARS LATER…

“Guys stop making that racket there are people next door.” ~sigh of relief~ this is pretty nice I’m a mother of 3 wonderful kids a 13 year old named Aslineidy, a 11 year old named Felix, and a 6 year old  named Carlos. I’m still doing chores, but not much like I did 23 years ago. Now I can go places and I can relax without having to relive my childhood again.  That would be terrible.

THE END
